MICHIE

The Michie Board of Aldermen meets at 7:00 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at the Michie City Hall (239-3680).

Michie’s mayor is Don Greer (239-5200), who was just reelected to another term.

Michie has four aldermen, two of whom are ordinarily up for election every two years.  The current aldermen, with the year they come up for reelection, are:

    David Baker (632-0063)          2009

    Jim Merry                                 2011
    Anthony Smith (239-9660)      2011
    Frank Carroll                            2009

Unofficial election results

7:33 p.m., Saturday, 25 August

In Saturday’s municipal election for the town of Michie, incumbent Mayor Don Greer easily fended off a challenge from Shay Emmons, retaining his position by a vote of 129 to 33.

Ordinarily, two of Michie’s four alderman positions come up for election every two years.  Incumbent Anthony Smith and new-comer Frank Carroll, as the only announced candidates for the two four-year slots, were elected by default, garnering 107 and 134 votes respectively.

The one remaining contest was to fill the remaining two years of the four-year term to which Joe Austin was elected in 2005.  Jim Merry, who was appointed to fill the slot when Austin left, received 89 votes to challenger Hayward Hite’s 70 votes and will serve until 2009.

These are unofficial early returns.
