MILLEDGEVILLE

The Milledgeville Board of Aldermen meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Milledgeville City Hall.

Alone among McNairy County’s municipalities, Milledgville’s city limits extend beyond McNairy County, taking in parts of Chester and Hardin Counties.  Milledgeville has six aldermen, two from each county, and the mayor of Milledgeville is elected by the voters of all three counties.

Milledgeville’s mayor is Leland Alexander (687-3811), who was elected to another four-year term in May, 2007.

Milledgeville’s aldermen serve four-year terms, which are staggered so that one alderman from each county is up for election every two years.  The current aldermen, with the year they come up for reelection, are:

Jimmy Tuberville (McNairy County)    (687-3718)            2009
Hershel Hollin (McNairy County)     (687-3120)               2011
Dorothy Bridges (Chester County)    (688-5149)               2009
Donnie Johnson (Chester County)     (688-5501)               2011
Tony McMurray (Hardin County)     (687-3718)               2009
Perry Neal Smith (Hardin County)     (687-7376)              2011

Help!

We need someone to cover The Milledgeville town board meeting on the second Monday evening of each month.  If you have reasonable writing skills and a willingness to devote a few hours a month to the cause of keeping your fellow citizens informed about what is going on in local government, please give Guy Townsend a call at 731/645-8173, or email me at guy@guytownsend.net.  Here's your chance to advance the cause of democracy in McNairy County by making possible the "informed citizenry" which is essential to a functioning democracy.
