Welcome to the McNairy County Record, a Web site devoted to providing fair, accurate, and timely coverage of the public meetings of our county’s twelve government entities—the county commission, the school board, and the county’s ten incorporated municipalities.

Because the Record is starting out with a staff of only one person, it will not be possible at the outset to fully realize this objective.  The county commissioners meet on the second Monday of each month, at the same time that the aldermen for both Bethel Springs and Milledgeville meet.  The Adamsville commissioners meet on the third Monday, at the same time that the Guys aldermen, and the Finger aldermen meet.  And the commissioners and aldermen of Ramer, Michie, and Stantonville meet on the fourth Monday of the month.

The Record is actively seeking writers to help cover these meetings.  If you have reasonable writing skills, are willing to commit yourself to spending one or two or three or more nights a month covering a public meeting, and are willing to do so for the sole reward of knowing that you have performed a useful public service (translation: there ain’t no pay), call Guy Townsend at 645-8173.

In the meantime, we will cover as many of the meetings as possible and will post the agenda of all meetings as soon as we receive them.

An informed citizenry is the bedrock of a democratic society, and the McNairy County Record is dedicated to providing our citizens with the information they need to responsibly exercise their oversight of our elected officials.
